Autumn Winter 2024

Told You So

Unafraid to make a bold move, Talia Byre invites your attention with its Autumn Winter 2024 collection - entitled “Told You So” – with a traffic-stopping display of vivacious hues and textures, turning heads and igniting intrigue. Who said that being observed and perceived can’t be a thrill? *WINKY FACE*

Examining Amedeo Modigliani’s portrayals of writerBeatrice Hastings, his longtime partner, unveils a beautiful and natural progression in his depictions, reflecting his adoration through his gaze. Over time, Modigliani’s portrayals of Hastings grow increasingly nude and intimate, vividly illustrating his profound connection with his beloved. On the flip side, the brand found inspiration in the representation of 1960s girl groups like The Crystals, The Ronettes, and The Shangri-Las – whose song “Hate to Say I Told You So” lent its name to the collection – acknowledging the pervasive influence of male control on their imagery and aesthetic. Additionally, the ‘Sweater Girl’ archetype of 1940s and 1950s Hollywood, embodied by figures like Lana Turner, Jayne Mansfield, and Jane Russell, served as inspiration for the knitted separates.

Offbeat as it all may sound together, the garments remain true to the essence of the Talia Byre universe, advancing its distinctive style with innate curiosity. Drawing from spontaneous shopping impulses, akin to selecting tones or prints outside the usual repertoire, a sudden fearlessness ignites newfound courage to infuse lashings of maximalism into the mix. Take, for example, the fusion of cow and zebra prints in architectural maxi skirts, or the expert craftsmanship in a panelled long-sleeve knitted midi skirt and cardigan set adorned with Dalmatian print – a stalwart silhouette of the brand.

In other parts of the collection, sideway stripes translate onto sheer rugby tops, oversized pullovers, long-sleeve midi dresses, and puff-sleeved shirts layered beneath camisole dresses – dubbed The Bambino. The brand’s signature panelled midi skirts showcase a variety of textures, from oversized houndstooth checks and wide-set zig-zags to butter- soft navy leather. Each look is complemented by eye- catching tights, featuring block colours, prints, and checks, enhancing the overall bookish ‘80s-inspired feel.

Introducing a fresh take on the Bolter bag with miniature versions in cow and zebra prints, accompanied by waist-cinching belts featuring a Dalmatian pattern, injects a dynamic flair into the collection. This season, Talia Byre boldly explores uncharted terrain, delivering creations that are anything but timid!
